Markku Mantila is a branch chief for the NATO Strategic Communications Center of Excellence (NATO StratCom COE). Prior to this, he served as the managing director of Commanti Oy, a communications consulting company that he founded. Mr. Mantila’s career started as a journalist in Finland in 1985. In 1995, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, where he served in various roles for seven years. In 2002, he became the editor-in-chief of Pohjalainen a Finnish newspaper, and in 2009, he assumed the same role at Kaleva, another Finnish newspaper. In 2014, he became the director general for the Department for Government Communications at the Prime Minister`s Office. He holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Turku, and a master’s in government from the London School of Economics. He received the Bonnier Grand Prize of Journalism in 2012.
