Biography

Tim Sweijs currently serves as Director of Research at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS), focusing mainly on the changing character of modern conflict. In this capacity, he also leads the HCSS StratMon program, which provides global security risk assessment reports to the Dutch Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs. Dr. Sweijs was the founder and architect of the HCSS Political Violence Monitor, an online mapping platform which rates states by level vulnerability to civil conflict. Prior to his time at HCSS, he worked as a researcher at the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) and its defense and security branch, as well as on the research staff of NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels.
